  1. Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Experience & Strategic Initiatives, April 2023 - May 2024

Personnel

  • Responsible for 14 General Faculty of various ranks who serve as Association (Advising) Deans.
  • Developed processes for annual reviews, rubrics for promotion, and broader governance procedures.

Policy & Planning

  • Work with a team of general faculty, tenure track faculty, and administrative staff to examine all policies related to undergraduate course requirements in the College including, but not limited to: eight semester rule, leaving and returning, various appeals processes, etc.
  • Developed a team for curriculum planning to forecast enrollment demand, schedule classrooms, and decrease waitlists.
  • Redesign summer orientation to decrease stress and enhance student outcomes.
  • Redesign communications including new College website, major maps for all majors and programs, develop social media strategy to target students.

Curriculum & Advising

  • Scale first year curricular experience for 3000+ first year students; assess current model and make recommendation for new approach
  • Assess and work to completely redesign undergraduate advising resources for 12,000+ undergraduates across the College.
  • Proposed and scaled transitional advising model: budgeted at 3 million/year including hiring 20 new academic advisors

Management and Budgeting

  • Led the largest department in the College of Arts and Sciences: 43 tenure-track faculty, 900 majors and approximately 75 graduate students.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating four administrative staff.
  • Managed department’s $4 million salary budget.
  • Used additional $250,000/year in discretionary income for recruitment, retention, and student/faculty research initiatives.

Hiring and Personnel Matters

  • Created transparent process for annual peer review of all departmental faculty;
  • Revised and rewrote all promotion and tenure processes;
  • Oversaw reappointment, promotion, and tenure of 16 faculty.
  • Developed MOUs for joint appointments with departments and schools across the University;
  • Worked with University Legal Counsel to create Faculty Guides program as a complement to departmental mentoring for faculty.

Program Design and Creation

  • Wrote external review and response;
  • Led team that fundamentally redesigned undergraduate program requirements;
  • Helped implement new graduate track in political methodology;
  • Raised funds for new programs in Power Violence, and Inequality and in Race and Politics.

Development Experience
- Created Department of Politics Alumni Advisory Board to cultivate long-term relationships with
the Department and the College;
- Created annual “Life After Politics” event to bring together alumni and current faculty/students;
